Machine Operative

Humdinger, Sherburn in Elmet

Position type: Full-time, Permanent 

Hours: 40

Breaks: x1 30-minute breaks and x2 15-minute break 

Shift Pattern:

 

12-hour days and nights. No weekend work, barring one Sunday 6pm start every 3 weeks! You will work the below pattern: 

 

Week 1: Sunday to Tuesday 18:00 - 06:00 (3 nights followed by 5 days off)

Week 2: Monday to Tuesday 06:00 - 18:00 & Wednesday to Thursday 18:00 - 06:00 (2 days followed by 2 nights followed by 5 days off)

Week 3: Wednesday to Friday 06:00 - 18:00 (followed by 1 day off, then start again on week 1)

 

Pay range: (increase with skilled gained)

Grade 1 Pay Rate: £11.97 /hour  (Entry pay) (£24,897.60 equivalent) 

Grade 2 Pay Rate: £12.17

Grade 3 Pay Rate: £13.13

 

Please note there is no public transport to get you on shift for 06:00.

Responsibilities

Machine operators at Humdinger play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and packaging of our mouth-watering chocolate products.

 

  • You will operate machinery such as Bagging, Bulking, Foiling and Netting, which you will be trained on.
  • You will be required to ensure that the product is packed exactly how it should be to ensure the highest quality and food safety.
  • You will also monitor your machinery and check for any issues and report breakdowns to our engineering team.  
  • Manual handling is required.
  • To comply with safe work systems
  • To complete daily, monthly, weekly cleaning as per cleaning schedules to the correct standard
  • To complete relevant CCP (critical control point) checks and in the correct time frame
  • To monitor asset performance and raise any actions required
  • To ensure following the correct works orders and completing all regular checks
  • To ensure that the quality and integrity is followed throughout the production process
  • To adhere to the packing plan
  • To comply 100% with all QAS standards

 

You will be supported by your Team Leader, but also required to work independently on your packing line. As well as operating machinery you will be required to pack on the line as required. 

 

In the first few weeks, you will be trained in Level 2 Food Safety. 

Qualifications

Machine Operative experience is essential 

 

Essential

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of training others/coaching and the ability to confirm understanding when managing staff
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to work to targets
  • Flexibility to work within other areas of the business as required

Desirable

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification (or equivalent)
  • Level 2 Health and Safety qualification (or equivalent)
