Yard Operative

Humdinger, Heckington

 

Position Type: Full-time, Permanent 

Hours: 40

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:00 (Flexible start & finish time)

Pay range: £12.31/hour 

Breaks: 30 minutes paid

 

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking person to provide facilities support to the site carrying out a range of yard tasks including grass cutting, yard clearing, compactor operation, basic building maintenance, pallet control, Drain clearing, Effluent control, refueling and general site checks and facilities support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance tasks to ensure the yard and site areas are well-maintained, including grass cutting, weeding, and basic facilities upkeep.

  • Clear yard and factory waste, ensuring proper disposal via the compactor.

  • Carry out external painting duties when weather permits, including line marking and touch-ups.

  • Complete all necessary documentation to close out non-conformances and support site compliance activities.

  • Assist pest control contractors during yard audits and ensure relevant standards are upheld.

  • Conduct routine vehicle condition checks when other team members are unavailable.

  • Clean and maintain food waste systems, ensuring hygiene standards are met and the area remains tidy.

  • Stack pallets in preparation for weekly or bi-weekly collections, ensuring safe and orderly storage.

  • Maintain general housekeeping across the yard and surrounding areas.

  • Communicate effectively with internal management to report issues and provide updates.

  • Support engineers with specific tasks that require additional assistance.

  • Liaise with transport companies to coordinate skip movements, waste water collections, and pallet pickups.

  • Clean and maintain the dust extraction system, ensuring proper waste control and system performance.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining flexibility to collaborate within the team.

  • Perform driving duties as needed.

  • Oversee contractors and manage permit-to-work systems when required.

  • Operate a forklift truck (FLT) if appropriately trained and certified.

  • Clean yard drainage systems regularly to prevent blockages and maintain site safety.

  • Provide additional support to the Site Facilities Operator as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Reliable, with a consistent and proactive approach to work

  • Forklift Truck (FLT) trained with a counterbalance license – essential

  • Holds a valid UK driving license - essential

  • Competent in operating compactors and other site machinery

  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Confident and safe in the use of grass cutting and landscaping equipment

  • Knowledgeable and safe in handling chemicals and hazardous substances

  • Experience in supporting and liaising with external contractors

  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks

  • Strong awareness and adherence to health and safety (H&S) practices
